As the historic county town, Hamilton has some of Lanarkshire's finest older streets: Georgian and Victorian sandstone around the town centre and Bothwell Road, solid bay-windowed villas, and red sandstone tenements from the town's boom years. Further out, the twentieth century brought interwar bungalows, big council-built schemes and modern estates.
